September Message from Superintendent Truebenbach
Dear Big Lake Schools Community:
It’s hard to believe that it is almost October, and that we are finishing up our fourth week of school. The first month has flown by, and so many exciting things have already happened.
In August, “Buzz’s Bookstore,” a new book vending machine at Independence Elementary STEM, officially opened, and the first students bought books this week. The students are so excited about this new PBIS incentive! Last week, our high school hosted its annual Youth Apprenticeship and Career Fair, which helped kick off our REAL program. Students learned about various career pathways through information and hands-on experiences provided by our almost 90 community partners in attendance!
Overall, our students and staff have adjusted well to new routines. We really tried to make the back to school transition as easy as possible, especially for those entering new schools.
Liberty’s first days of school were “Getting to Know You” Days. Independence Elementary STEM hosted its first annual New Student & Family Orientation Night for all new and third-grade families to tour and learn more about the school.
The middle school and high school spent the first day welcoming the incoming sixth- and ninth-graders. The newest members of each school spent the day in a special orientation learning the ropes and participating in community building activities before being joined by the rest of the grades the next day. The sixth-grade orientation was new this year, and I want to thank our school board and middle school families for letting us make it happen!
We know that the first moments are invaluable to starting the year on the right foot. We hope that these introductory events and spending the time to build the foundation and cultivate strong relationships helped set the stage for a successful school year.
As I walk in the halls, I already see so much enthusiasm and learning going on. With your continued support, I know we can make this year the best yet!
Sincerely,
Tim Truebenbach
Superintendent
