Amber Dittbrenner, clarinet, a member of both the Big Lake High School Concert Band and Wind Ensemble was selected as a member of the top honor band - Gold.
The two festival bands - Gold and Maroon - included 250 high school musicians from 60 high schools throughout Minnesota & Wisconsin They began rehearsals on Friday morning which continued on Saturday along with Master Classes led by college faculty. The Festival concluded with a concert at 4:00 p.m. in the Marshall Performing Arts Center on the University of Minnesota Duluth Campus.
The Maroon Band was directed by Maestro Dario Sotelo and Dr. Mark Whitlock, Director of Bands, UMD. Maestro Sotelo is a Brazilian conductor and is also the President of the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).
The music performed included: "Suite do Vale" – Renato Goulart; "In the Forest of the King" – Pierre La Plante; "Earth Song" – Frank Ticheli, “Heartland” – John Paulson, “Sea Songs” – Ralph Vaughn Williams
Amber had an outstanding musical experience learning and performing on the campus of UMD.
