During its June school board meeting, the Big Lake School Board approved several changes to the 2018-2019 district calendar affecting student contact days.
These revisions include changing November 30, March 1 and May 31 from early release days to non-school days and changing October 17 from a non-school day to a school day. Supplementary changes include cancelling the middle school’s parent/teacher daytime conference on October 17, and moving the elementary schools’ parent/teacher conferences from November 6 to November 5 due to midterm elections.
"These revisions were necessary in order to accommodate an increase in teacher work time, which was an element in the recently approved teacher contract,” said Superintendent Westerberg.
Teachers will have additional work time on the three dates that were previously early release days (November 30, March 1, May 31), and October 17 will serve to make up the lost student contact time. Seniors’ last day will remain May 29.
