Prior to winter break, Governor Walz announced that school districts may choose to return elementary students to in-person learning the week of January 18, 2021. Since his announcement, our leadership team has been working hard to review our health and safety protocols and monitor local COVID-19 metrics. At this time with current data related to COVID-19 metrics in elementary aged students, increased health and safety protocols, and additional resources from the State of Minnesota our elementary students will be able to return to in-person learning on January 19, 2021 (January 18 was a previously scheduled non-school day for Martin Luther King Jr. Day).
School districts across the state are working with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) to create plans for secondary students to return. Our district has a consultation scheduled with MDH and MDE this week and will share an update with you as soon as we are able.
Attached to this email is our Restart Plan which includes updated guidance from MDE and MDH, new health and safety procedures, and additional information regarding our return to school. I hope that this plan provides meaningful insight into how our plans are created, a typical day at school, and additional resources for your family.
I appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate restarting our schools. I know many of you are anxiously awaiting to hear about a return date for secondary students. As soon as we are able to, we will share more information on their return to school.
