We recognize the importance of celebrating prom and know what a memorable occasion this event may be for our students. We are excited to share with you that planning for prom is currently underway! We are working hard to ensure that this event is safe and compliant with Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) regulations. While we are still finalizing details, we wanted to share our contingent plans with you.
At this time, Grand March and a dance will take place on Saturday, May 1, at Big Lake High School following all COVID-19 requirements from MDH. Only Big Lake juniors and seniors will be able to attend the dance. We know that some students may want to invite guests from other districts or younger/older students to the dance with them, however, our primary focus during this time is providing a prom experience for our current junior and seniors. Guests from other districts or younger/older students will be allowed to attend Grand March.
Tentatively, Grand March will take place from 1:00-4:00 pm and the dance will take place from 8:00-10:30 pm. Both Grand March and the dance will take place at Big Lake High School in the gym. Tickets for prom will go on sale Monday, March 22 and be $50 per person. Tickets for prom can be purchased online at Smart Schools K-12. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, April 16 at 3:00 pm. Further information regarding Grand March and dance protocols will be shared soon.
All prom participants are expected to adhere to COVID-19 regulations including required mask wearing, washing hands often, and social distancing when possible. Participants who are quarantined on May 1 due to a possible exposure to COVID-19 may not attend prom; no exceptions will be made.
While we look forward to hosting a meaningful experience for our students, know that should COVID-19 metrics change or further restrictions are implemented by MDH, we may need to change our plans or cancel the event. Additional information will be shared in the coming weeks.
