Joining a school council or committee is a great way to get involved with the school district, give back to the school community, and have your voice be heard!

We thrive on having strong family and community partnerships, and are always looking for new people to join our committees to share their ideas and diverse perspectives on how we can better support our students.

Curriculum Advisory Committee

Big Lake Schools' Curriculum Advisory Committee is responsible for providing input and making recommendations regarding implementation of the Minnesota Academic Standards and Big Lake Schools' overall academic curriculum.

The purpose of the District Curriculum Advisory Committee is to serve in an advisory capacity to the school district and serve as a communication link between the schools and community. Community members participate in three evening meetings per year to assist in planning and improving the instruction and curriculum affecting state and district academic standards and programs to be implemented at Big Lake Schools.

Who Should Join?

The district strives to have a diverse committee with representation from several different races, parents of students in different grade levels, and differing career field interests.

If you:

Live within the Big Lake School District
Are interested in curriculum and instruction
Have a strong background in education
Have a desire to help students succeed

Early Childhood Advisory Council

Elementary PTO

The Big Lake Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) helps to create a partnership between teachers and parents for the benefit of all Liberty & Independence students! The PTO meets every other month to discuss and organize fundraisers that help make events, programs and special purchases possible.

Serve BIG (Homeless Supports)

Serve BIG is a community group of committed citizens working to further connect, and assist in supporting our homeless or near homeless families.

The group meets every other month for collaborative discussions that center around how we can best support our families who need it most.

Through fundraising efforts and other initiatives, we work together to make a positive change in our community.

Get Involved

Meetings are typically held at 8am on the first Friday of every other month.

Reach out to Ben Bonnett, the district homeless liaison, to be added to the email list to learn about future meeting dates and learn how you can get involved!
