Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to a new trimester.  I look forward to working with you and your student to provide him or her with the necessary skills and tools to be successful throughout his or her school career and beyond.  You may have heard the Native American saying, “Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand.”  This saying rings true in my teaching philosophy.  I believe that all students can learn if provided with relevant and meaningful objectives in which they connect learning to life experiences and interests, and where there is a positive learning environment, and collaboration between parents, community, and school.

In our competitive society, it is important for students to develop work habits that will enable them to be successful in school and in the work place. These soft skills include arriving to class on time, staying on task and when finishing one task going to another, managing time, completing work on time, and avoiding disruptive behavior. To achieve the highest standards possible, it is my responsibility to provide a place where I can teach and students can learn.  Therefore, individuals will show respect, responsibility, honesty, kindness, and fairness in the classroom—Hornet PRIDE.  Students are responsible for their own behavior and will accept the consequences of that chosen behavior.

Equally important to meaningful objectives and a positive learning environment is communication and collaboration between parents, community, and school.  I believe this is essential to student success.  Please support your student as he or she strives to master the objectives of the class.  I also encourage you to attend conferences that are held throughout the year and to check your student’s progress online.  In the meantime, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  My school phone number is 763-262-6135.  My e-mail address is d.campbell@biglakeschools.org.

It is my desire to partner with you and your student to make this learning opportunity one that is meaningful and relevant to his or her life experiences—in and out of the classroom.
