How Do I Become A Sub?

  1. Apply for a Short Call Substitute teacher license from MDE (Teacher Substitutes Only)
If you have a current MN teaching license, you do not need to complete this step.
A short-call substitute teaching license allows substitute teachers to teach us to 20 consecutive days per teaching assignment. Licenses are valid for 3 years, retired teachers may be eligible for a lifetime short-call substitute license. For more information and to apply, visit mn.gov/pelsb/aspiring-educators/sub/.
