Getting Ready for Kindergarten: Overview of the Key Steps
Step 1: Complete Early Childhood Screening
Schedule a screening appointment
The State of Minnesota mandates Early Childhood Screening for all incoming public school kindergartners. If your child has not yet participated, set up an appointment through Big Lake Community Education.
Have concerns about your child’s development? Talk with your healthcare provider or reach out to Help Me Grow.
Step 2: Complete Kindergarten Registration
Enroll for Kindergarten 2026-27
The enrollment process can be completed entirely online. You can save your progress and finish later if needed. If you need help or need paper forms, please contact our office.
Required documents: Please have the following handy and ready to upload directly to the enrollment portal:

Birth certificate (Can upload a photo)

Immunization records (Available through your healthcare portal)

Early Childhood Screening records (Only needed if your screening was completed in another school district)

Step 3: Attend Kindergarten Registration Night on March 16
Join us at Liberty on March 16 from 4-6:30pm. Let's celebrate your future kindergartner and kick off their educational adventure! Please RSVP for Dinner by Feb. 27.
Step 4: Check Your Child’s Immunization Records
Students must be up-to-date on all required vaccines, or submit an exemption, by the first day of Kindergarten to remain enrolled.
Step 5: Celebrate Your Kindergartner and Get Excited for Fall!
