Join the School Board

• 4 year term
• 3 monthly meetings (on average)
• Meetings require preparation, sometimes up to 2 hours
• Additional time may be required for non-formal meetings or conversations

Board members are paid $75 per meeting up to 4 hours; $110 per 4+ hour meetings (rates are set annually by the board)

• Developing a vision for the district
• Setting goals, aligning resources with goals, and monitoring progress
• Establishing district policy
• Being a public sounding board figure and collaborating with community partners
• Ensuring facilities are safe and adequate
• Communicating with stakeholders
• Rallying the community around student achievement
• Hiring and evaluating the superintendent
• Ratifying employee contracts
• Advocating student needs to lawmakers
• Training in education issues and governance

• Motivated by the best interests of all kids
• Passionate about public education
• Knowledgeable on the difference between governance and management
• Able to make decisions
• Strong communicators who are willing to listen
• Willing and able to spend the time and energy necessary to be an effective and productive board member
• Able to function as part of a collaborative team
• Professional and have a willingness to learn

Candidates must:

• be at least 21 years old
• be an eligible voter
• be a current district resident and have lived within the district for at least 30 days prior to election
• not be convicted of a felony
