Minnco Brings Money Matters Simulation to BLHS

On Thursday, April 3, about 80 BLHS students in the high school Financial Literacy and Intro to Business classes put their budgeting skills to the test with Minnco’s Money Matters Simulation.

Students were each given a sample financial biography of their future selves, including details of their career, family status, and any fixed monthly expenses. Using that information, they rotated through booths for major budget categories, such as food, home, and kids, making decisions on how to spend their money. After all decisions were made, students went to the credit union station, where the credit union employees helped them assess how they did, and if needed, make adjustments to stay within budget.

One of the biggest takeaways? Stuff is expensive! Many students were surprised to learn how much everyday expenses can cost, but walked away with a greater appreciation and understanding of money management and how to spend within their means.

Thank you Minnco Credit Union for taking time out of your day to visit us, sharing your expertise and providing this awesome hands-on opportunity for our students. It was such a fun way to practice a very important and relevant skill!
