BLMS Makes Pop Tab Delivery to the Rochester Ronald McDonald House

This summer, Big Lake Middle School delivered an impressive 280 pounds of pop tabs, collected during the 2023-24 school year, to the Rochester Ronald McDonald House. That's about 370,000 tabs that will help support families of children seeking medical care!

The tabs were collected as part of the nationwide Pop Tab Program, which recycles aluminum from pop tabs and turns it into cash to support Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

The pop tabs collected by Big Lake Middle School will directly benefit the local branch, RMHC Midwest | MN, WI, IA. This branch operates a 70-room house in Rochester, providing temporary lodging and support for families with children being treated at the nearby Mayo Clinic. According to the organization’s website, the Pop Tab Program generates approximately $10,000-$15,000 annually for RMHC Midwest | MN, WI, IA.

At Big Lake Middle School, the pop tab collection is an annual tradition, even sparking a bit of friendly competition. The collection is incorporated into the school’s year-long Blue/Gold challenge, with the team bringing in the most tabs each month earning a point.

The middle school looks forward to continuing the collection during the 2024-25 school year, so middle school families—keep saving! Students can drop off tabs with his/her advisor.

Thank you to all the middle school students and staff who have contributed in the past and will continue to support this great cause year after year. BLMS sure knows how to make a difference!
