After exceptional performances at a statewide healthcare competition, Barwonah Cooper and Layla Erie, two BLHS juniors who also participate in Wright Technical Center's (WTC) Health Science program, earned an invitation to Nashville this summer to showcase their skills at the national level.
The competition was a part of the Minnesota Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Future Health leadership conference, and gave aspiring healthcare professionals a chance to showcase their medical knowledge and skills in a wide range of competitive healthcare events.
Cooper placed third in the Nursing Assistant event and fourth in the Home Health Aide event, while Erie placed second in the Nursing Assistant event. Their strong performances earned them both the opportunity to represent WTC and Minnesota HOSA at the prestigious HOSA International Leadership Conference this June in Nashville, Tennessee!
The competition was just one piece of the conference, which also featured a lot of learning opportunities for future healthcare professionals. Conference attendees participated a variety of interactive workshops, seminars, and guest lectures learning about topics such emerging healthcare trends, career preparedness, and personal growth. The conference also gave students the chance to strengthen their leadership skills and network with like-minded peers.
Cooper and Erie attended the conference through their participation in Wright Technical Center classes. We’re proud to be part of this cooperative, which provides so many career and technical opportunities for our students and those in neighboring communities!
