On Jan. 29, Big Lake High School held the annual Youth Apprenticeship Signing Day, an event aimed at honoring the commitment of our youth apprentices and celebrating the partnerships that make it all possible.
Eleven BLHS students are currently enrolled in the Youth Apprenticeship program, gaining valuable hands-on job experience through their work with one of six local six community partners. This year’s student/employer pairings include:
- Guardian Angels Senior Living: Marissa Reed & Izabelle Moudry
- Proto Lase: Thorson Linn & Cooper Barta
- Riverside Church: Isaac Berger
- Northstar Technology Solutions: Asher Henning
- Cura Monticello Care Center: Lily Sevek
- Lisi Medical Remmele: Alli Feligle (not present), Lucas Stevenson, Vishnu Deonarine, Gavin Jones
Most of this year’s apprentices are seniors, with Lily Sevek being the only junior. Alli Feligle and Lucas Stevenson are second-year apprentices, having started in their role with Lisi Medical Remmele last year.
As part of the Youth Apprenticeship program, students are matched with an employer in their chosen field and are employed by the organization under the supervision of a highly skilled mentor. Students receive training based on statewide youth apprenticeship curriculum guidelines, endorsed by business and industry. Not only do students gain valuable experience that helps them prepare for life after graduation, but they also earn a wage and high school class credit.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our community partners who work with our students, the parents who stand beside them every step of the way, and all other supporters of the Youth Apprenticeship program. Without these strong partnerships, none of this would be possible!
