The Hornet Way
Building Citizenship through the Hornet Way
Our district's behavior policy is the "Hornet Way." The Hornet Way is based on five core values: Respect, Honesty, Kindness, Responsibility, & Fairness. We expect that students, parents and community members model the traits of the Hornet Way in all that they do, both within and beyond our classroom walls.
At Big Lake Schools, everyone belongs in our school community. To us, being a part of our community means following the Hornet Way and displaying those traits every day. From our youngest learners to our graduating seniors, the Hornet Way is a path to building citizens that are responsible, respectful, fair, honest and kind in everything they do.
Traits of the Hornet Way
- Respect: Be considerate of self, other people and other people’s beliefs and property
- Honesty: Be truthful
- Kindness: Be caring, friendly and helpful
- Responsibility: Be dependable and accountable
- Fairness: Be committed to the just treatment of others

PBIS
One way we aim to instill the traits of the Hornet way into our students is through the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework.
Hornet Hall of Fame
The Hornet Way goes beyond our school walls. The Hornet Hall of Fame recognizes some of our outstanding Big Lake alumni who have embraced our “Hornet Way” throughout their lives.
