• Big Lake Schools believes, and research proves, that there is a direct link between high academic achievement andTeachers working in PLCs high quality teachers. That's why we have invested time and resources to not only ensure our current teachers have the necessary tools to make them the best, but to also attract Minnesota's finest teachers.  Here are a few examples of ways Big Lake Schools creates an environment for top-notch teachers: 
    • The district implemented in the 2011-2012 school year, and continues to utilize, an alternative compensation program called Q-Comp, which rewards teachers for performance and professional development rather than seniority. The program uses peer observers who observe the instruction of teachers and provide peer coaching.
    • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are utilized to provide a specific time and structure for job-embedded professional development where teachers work collaboratively on solving instructional challenges.
    • Teachers, staff and administration work in unison to fulfill the district's strategic framework, which creates a nurturing, friendly and creative atmosphere where everyone's opinion is valued.
